OUR 2020 #HEROINELEGACY MAGAZINE COVER GIRL IS SEPTIMA POINSETTE CLARK

The Mother of Citizenship Schools is our cover girl Septima Poinsette Clark, who we dedicated the 2020 #HERoineLegacy Magazine to. Click HERE to read the amazing stories of this year’s honorees.

We had a great time at this year’s #HERoineLegacy Honors Brunch. We added new hosts – Ena Esco and Steve Brown and added DJ Courtney Taylor to the event. We didn’t have a guest speaker so we incorporated a table game that meshed with our theme of “Building Destiny Partners” and creating a table centerpiece. We had each table build a centerpiece around a vase using Jenga pieces. That part was really fun and creative and we know everyone got something from it. Also, inspired by a question from one of our honorees, Kaylan, we decided to add a panel discussion so everyone could hear from the honorees and understand some of the reasons why they were being honored. It was a hit! Of course, we had 2016 honoree, Pastor LaKisha Johnson bringing forth the word of God, and her twin sister and 2017 honoree LaQuisha Rucker-Fields, of Uly Caterer, as the caterer. The slam dunk of the event were the fresh juice mimosas sponsored by ElectroLyfe Juice Bar.

#HEROINELEGACY BRUNCH SET TO SHARE THE STORIES OF SEVEN MEMPHIS WOMEN

(January 18, 2020)

Memphis, Tenn. – Tell Publishing, Co. will be hosting the 5th Annual #HERoineLegacy Honors Brunch and Magazine Reveal event, where seven dynamic women in Memphis will be honored, celebrated and their stories shared in the magazine. The event will take place Saturday, March 7, 10am at the Family Banquet Hall on Brooks Rd in Whitehaven. This year’s theme is “Building Destiny Partners.”

The c/o 2020 #HERoineLegacy Honorees are shown below. Our covergirl has always been a foremother who helped pave the way for us girls to be amazing today. We sent out surveys for the public to vote on who should be this year’s covergirl and that will be revealed at that brunch. The finalists were Wilma Rudolph, Ida B. Wells, Septima Clark and Phillis Wheatley.

“My goal is to recognize those gems in our community and give them a platform to shine bright,” said TJ Jefferson, Creator of the #HERoineLegacy Magazine and Brunch event. “My favorite part is listening to their journeys. These women are passionate about their families, their communities, their careers, the purposes and their mental health. I want others to be able to see themselves in these women.”

One of our new hosts is 20-year radio veteran, Ena Esco, Creator of the Verbally Effective Podcast, which has been selected to host a live podcast interview at the 2020 SxSW event. She hosts a radio show on iHeartMedia’s V101 FM every Sunday 10am-3pm. Our other co-host is awarding-winning playwright Steve Brown, Owner of the Steve Brown Productions. He writes, produces and stars in hilarious plays and he has had nine consecutive sold out shows.

We’ve added Courtney Taylor the Professional DJ to help us vibe out at the brunch. There will be unlimited mimosas with fresh juice sponsored by ElectryoLyfe Juice Bar for adults 21+. There will be games and giveaways and some amazing vendors to grab you something you need or to grab you something because you want it.

It was announced in 2018 that the #HERoineLegacy Brunch will be an annual fundraiser for The Destiny House, an organization the helps students with resources for college or help them map out a path if they decide to go straight into the workforce. It is our hope that this partnership will produce a hub of future honorees.
